 Aftershave makes the skin look smoother; it soothes sensitive skin; and it closes the pores after shaving.
Once you are done shaving, rinse your face with warm water to remove any remaining soap and then wash your face with cold water to tighten the pores. If you have nicked yourself the cold water will also help stop the bleeding. Dry your face and then apply aftershave.
You can use an aftershave balm, which is easier on the skin, or you may select an alcohol-based aftershave, if you can take the burn. Alcohol-based aftershaves also tend to dry out the skin.
