| Safety Razor vs Straight Razor | Hits: 44 |
What type of shaving razor should I use?
The answer to that question relies solely on what you prefer. Some men shave with disposable or cartridge razors and use a shaving cream that’s stored in a disposable aerosol can.
Cartridge razors are more expensive and are typically made for an average face. The aerosol cans emit gases that are bad for the environment and needless waste when empty.
And multi-blade razors can irritate many men due to the need to repeatedly shave the same area by the multiple blades and the greater possibility of ingrown hairs due to their “lift and cut” operations.
Using a double-edged razor or a straight edge razor can alleviate many of these problems.
As for choosing between a double-edged razor and a straight razor, most professionals will tell you that nothing gives a closer shave than a straight edge razor and they’re right.
But they also have years of experience using straight razors and might have forgotten their early days of using them. There is a rather steep learning curve to use a straight razor and many have carved themselves up like a jack o’ lantern while learning to use one.
If you like to stare danger straight in the face; if you’re someone who leaps from an airplane without a parachute; or if you prefer rattlesnakes as sleeping companions, then you’re ready for a straight razor.
If, on the other hand, you drive a Volvo because it’s safe; neatly arrange your dinnerware; or constantly say “I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” you’re more cut out for a double-edge or safety razor.
